Climate Change

Climate Change is one of the greatest challenges facing the agricultural industry today. While grain growers have been adapting to climate change for many years through new and innovative sustainable farming practices, the reduction of water and energy usage is a constant challenge.

The Federal Government has recently released its Green Paper which outlines its climate change strategy. Fundamental to the Government's strategy is a Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme which aims at reducing carbon pollution while minimising the impact on business and households. The CPR Scheme will place a limit, or cap, on the amount of carbon pollution industry can emit.

Grains Council of Australia (GCA) recognises the Federal Government’s CPR Scheme could be an effective means of achieving emissions reduction. However, GCA believes that agricultural cannot be covered within a Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme until significant research and development is undertaken.
