Company Profile
Grains Council of Australia Limited (GCA) is committed to representing the national interests of grain producers throughout Australia. Our commitment to developing national policies aimed at cultivating a strong, innovative, profitable, globally competitive and environmentally sustainable grains industry, has lasted 78 years.
GCA was initially established in 1930 as the Australian Wheat Growers Federation during a period when a number of State Governments were introducing grain elevator boards and storage and handling cooperatives were being formed, signaling a swing toward handling grain in bulk rather than bags.
The Australian Wheat Growers Federation operated under that name until 1979 when it changed to the Grains Council of Australia Incorporated, an incorporated association registered in the Australian Capital Territory.
In 2006, the structure of the Grains Council of Australia Inc was changed from an incorporated association to a company limited by guarantee (Grains Council of Australia Limited) and registered with ASIC, bringing it into line with changes in corporate governance practices and relevant laws.
Today, GCA has evolved to remain relevant in Australia's changing agricultural climate, with our membership base opening up to all grain grower groups so we can truly represent grain farmers at a national level.
