The Australian Seeds Authority Limited (ASA) was established in June 2002 as a non-profit company limited by guarantee to represent the national and international interests of the Australian seed industry in matters relating to seed certification and seed testing. The seed industry’s contribution to the Australian rural economy is significant and ASA will play a strong role in influencing industry growth for the benefit of its members. Success will increasingly depend on a thorough understanding of international market requirements and accredited quality management systems to meet customer demands. We will analyse where the threats and opportunities lie and focus on essential functions that provide the best returns. As a company, ASA is responsible for and accountable to its members. Under ASA’s Constitution, the Seed Industry Association of Australia (SIAA) and the Grains Council of Australia (GCA) are the first members of the company and have equal voting rights equivalent to no less than 40% of the total votes each at general meetings of the company. ASA proposes to develop a much broader base of members, including growers, companies and seed certification and seed testing service providers who contribute financially to ASA through payment of ASA charges collected by service providers. Members will be entitled to receive ASA communications and to attend and vote at General Meetings and the Annual General Meeting of the company. ASA will be looking to our members to help shape and drive the company so that it is truly reflective of the needs of all sectors of the Australian seed industry in a global market. |
